Readers Ride #1

The Mokihinui River cuts through the OLD GHOST Road, a long-forgotten gold miners’ road in New Zealand. We called this frame the MOKIHINUI, because it is versatile to take over the other side of the world, even if you need to ride all the way.

The Mokihnui is designed around 2 tyre sizes 27.5+ and 29x2.8". This frame has “Trail” geometry with 68deg head angle, long low top tube, dropper seatpost (geometry) and Rocker Split Dropouts for belt drive.

This is our first customer build. This was built up with a combination of old and new components and it is 22.8lbs which is just over 10Kg with pedals.

Note: those tyres are a whooping 29x2.8" — so this bike can shed some weight if needed — but I like this is how I imagined the Mokihinui being built.

This is the spec on how he got to a 10 Kg build:

  • Middleburn polished cranks (24mm spindle)
  • Hope T47 internal BB with 24mm adaptor.
  • Goldtec hubs on Velocity rims.
  • Terravail 29 x 2.8" tyres.
  • Enve stem
  • MT zoom 760 bars
  • Carbon seatpost.
  • Ergon carbon saddle.
  • Wolftooth fatpaw grips.
  • Wolftooth stainless steel eliptical chainring.
  • Hope brakes for stopping.
